Positive review response examples

Good reviews are the ones owners tend to skip, because there's nothing to fix. But people deciding whether to try you read those replies too, and a page of unanswered five-stars looks like nobody's minding the store. In the BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, 89% of consumers said they expect businesses to reply to reviews.

A good reply to a positive review is short and specific. Mention the thing they actually liked, use their name if it fits, and stop there. The examples below cover 5-star and 4-star reviews from eight kinds of local businesses, with a note on why each one works.

A birthday dinner that went right

Dana K.

Mentioned it was my mom's 70th when we sat down and our server came back with a candle in her tiramisu. The short rib was fall-apart tender. We'll definitely be back.

Response from the owner

Happy 70th to your mom! Our servers jump at the chance to light a candle for a big birthday, and it sounds like the short rib did its part too. Bring her back soon.

Why it works: It opens with the occasion and then names the dish they loved, so it reads like someone actually read the review.

Praise for a stylist by name

Priya S.

Jess fixed the box dye disaster I walked in with and I teared up a little when she turned the chair around. She was upfront that it would take two sessions and never once made me feel dumb about it. Already booked the second one.

Response from the owner

Jess is going to love reading this, Priya. Color corrections take patience on both sides of the chair, and being straight with you about needing two sessions is exactly how she works. See you for round two.

Why it works: It uses the stylist's name the reviewer already gave and calls out the honesty they valued, so the praise clearly reached the right person.

A two-word five-star review

Luis R.

Great service!

Response from the owner

Short and sweet. Thanks, Luis, and we'll be here next time the car needs anything.

Why it works: A two-word review gets a two-sentence reply, because anything longer starts to look like a template.

A member who stuck with it

Brandon W.

Signed up in January fully expecting to quit by March like every other year. It's October and I'm still here 4 days a week. Honestly the 6am regulars are half the reason, nobody lets you skip.

Response from the owner

Making it past March is the hard part, and you're well past it. The 6am group notices when someone's missing, so consider yourself stuck with them. See you tomorrow morning.

Why it works: It celebrates the member's milestone instead of the gym and gives the 6am crew their credit, which is what the reviewer actually wrote about.

A regular of three years

Carol M.

Been coming every saturday for about 3 years now. The almond croissants are still the best I've had anywhere, and the girls at the counter usually have mine bagged before I get to the register.

Response from the owner

Three years of Saturday mornings is a lot of almond croissants, Carol. Having your order bagged before you reach the register is the counter team's way of saying you're one of us. We'd notice if you stopped coming, so please don't.

Why it works: It treats a regular like a regular, picking up the croissants and the counter routine instead of falling back on a generic welcome-back line.

Dental office praise, HIPAA-safe reply

Rachel H.

I avoided the dentist for six years because of anxiety. Everyone here explained what they were doing before they did it and let me raise a hand whenever I needed a break. First time I've left a dental office not shaking.

Response from the owner

We appreciate you sharing this. Plenty of people put off the dentist because of nerves, so our team makes a habit of explaining each step and pausing whenever someone raises a hand. If you're reading this and feel the same way, tell us up front and we'll go at your pace.

Why it works: It answers with the office's general approach to nervous visitors and never confirms the reviewer was treated there, which keeps it HIPAA-safe.

Four stars with a small suggestion

Jordan P.

Room was spotless, bed was great, and they let us check in almost two hours early after a red-eye. Only knock is the blackout curtains in 412 don't quite meet in the middle, so the sun hits you at 6am. Would stay again.

Response from the owner

Good catch on the curtains in 412. Maintenance has it on the list so the panels actually close and the next guest gets to sleep in. Glad the early check-in helped after a red-eye, and we'd love to have you back.

Why it works: It treats the suggestion as useful, names the room and the fix, and still acknowledges the early check-in that went right.

Happy customer who found it pricey

Steve D.

Called on a Sunday night with water coming through the kitchen ceiling. Tech showed up in under an hour, wore shoe covers, and showed me exactly which fitting failed. Wasn't cheap but I get it, it was Sunday.

Response from the owner

A Sunday night ceiling leak is nobody's idea of a good weekend, Steve. Weekend calls do cost more since it means getting someone out on short notice, and we appreciate you seeing it that way. Glad our tech could show you the bad fitting so you knew what you were paying for.

Why it works: It answers the price comment honestly, without apologizing for it or offering a discount, and picks up the detail about the failed fitting.

Tips

  • Repeat one detail from the review, like the dish, the stylist's name or the room number. It's the fastest way to show a person wrote the reply.
  • Match the length of the review. A two-word review gets a sentence or two, and even a long, glowing story rarely needs more than four.
  • Don't skip the 4-star reviews. They often include a small suggestion, and saying what you did about it does more for you than one more thank-you under a 5-star.
  • If the reviewer names an employee, use that name and show the review to the person. Don't add names the reviewer didn't mention, since not everyone on your team wants to be named online.
  • Medical and dental offices should thank the reviewer without confirming they're a patient. HIPAA applies to glowing reviews too, so talk about how your office works in general.

Questions

Should you respond to positive reviews?

Yes. Your reply sits right under the review for everyone browsing your profile, so it's one of the few places a future customer hears from you directly. A two-line answer takes a minute and shows someone's paying attention.

How do you respond to a positive review?

Thank them, repeat one detail from what they wrote, and keep it to two to four sentences. Use their first name if it reads naturally. Leave out sales pitches and promo codes; an invitation to come back is plenty.

Can I use the same reply for every positive review?

You can, but it shows. In the BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, 50% of consumers said they avoid businesses that post templated replies, and identical thank-yous are easy to spot when they stack up on one profile. Start from an example here and swap in a detail from each review.
